8,000,000,000 Pounds of fuel

Materials. I will use only lightweight, non-metal parts for the nose, body, and fins of my rocket.

Motors. I will use only certified, commercially made model rocket motors, and will not tamper with these motors or use them for any purposes except those recommended by the manufacturer.

Ignition System. I will launch my rockets with an electrical launch system and electrical motor igniters

Launch Safety. I will use a countdown before launch, and will ensure that everyone is paying attention and is a safe distance of at least 15 feet away when I launch rockets with D motors or smaller, and 30 feet when I launch larger rockets.

Misfires. If my rocket does not launch when I press the button of my electrical launch system, I will remove the launcher's safety interlock or disconnect its battery before allowing anyone to approach the rocket.

Launcher. I will launch my rocket from a launch rod, tower, or rail to ensure that the rocket flies nearly straight up, and I will use a blast deflector to prevent the motor's exhaust from hitting the ground, and I will cap the end of the rod when it is not in use.

Size. If my model rocket weighs more than one pound (453 grams) at liftoff or has more power then a single G motor, I will check and comply with Federal Aviation Administration regulations before flying.

Flight Safety. I will not launch my rocket at targets or near airplanes, and will not put any flammable or explosive payload in my rocket.

Launch Site. I will launch my rocket outdoors, in an open area and in safe weather conditions, and will ensure there is no dry grass close to the launch pad.

Recovery System. I will use a recovery system such as a streamer or parachute in my rocket so that it returns safely and undamaged and can be flown again, and I will use only flame-resistant or fireproof recovery system wadding in my rocket.

Recovery Safety. I will not attempt to recover my rocket from power lines, tall trees, or other dangerous places

True north is the north pole of the earth, or the north end of the earth's axis. The magnetic pole of the earth is the top of the earth, if the earth's axis was straight up and down.

The Attitude Indicator shows the pitch and roll of the plane.

An Airfoil is something that is made or naturally moves through the air.

35.5 Statute Miles = 30 Nautical Miles

150 Statute Miles = 130 Nautical Miles
5,000 Nautical Miles = 5,753 Statute Miles

This week has been great. I have learned about the different theories (the Bernoulli Effect, Newtonian Theory and Circulation Theory). I have also learned a lot about the history of aviation. All the way from Leonardo da Vinci to the jet age. It is amazing he the planes have evolved from cloth-wooden gliders to massive steel jumbo jets.
This week was also very fun. I had fun learning these things (oops, I forgot, no fun) but still learned a lot in the processes. I also felt like I ft in and had a few friends.

Occam's Razor-Whenever one can remove the impossible, what remains, however unlikely, (leads to) the truth. It can be used in my everyday life; for example, it can be used in multiple choice.

Rubin H. Fleet is important because, one, he flew a mail plane from New York to Washington, two, and maybe more important he started the plane company in San Diego called Consolidated. Consolidated later turned into Convair, later a Division of General Dynamics Corp.

DATUM is the last point where a missing thing was last seen or where they think, the thing is.

The Red Baron was red because he wanted it to stand out and be recognized when you are about to be blown to smithereens :)

Yaw-Is the nose of the plane turning right or left

Pitch-Is the nose of the plane going up or down.

Roll-Is when the nose of the plane staying in the same place but the plane rolls

Dihedral-Is when the wings are slightly slanted upward

Static-When the air pressure stays the same

Dynamic-When the air pressure changes

Aerodynamic-Designed to reduce or minimize the drag caused by air as an object moves though it or by wind that strikes and flows around an object. The wings and bodies of airplanes have an aerodynamic shape

Pics For Monday


In my modifications I improved my plane by adding another wing-like a biplane. This helped by adding lift and stability. This was also bad because it added weight and drag. I also added a horizontal stabilizer in behind the vertical stabilizer (or in England the "tail"). This was good because it helped stop unwanted Pitch. I also colored it green :)

Observation-We observed that the standard plane was good, but we wanted to make it better.

Question-What will happen when we modify our plane?

Hypothesis-When I modified it, it won't go as far.

Experiment-Launch it off of a ruler cat shot

Conclusion-Mine went a lot shorter. From 8.6 m. the first time to 4.6 m. the second time.

The four forces of flight are; thrust-the movement of the airplane moving foreword, drag-the force of the plane being pulled backwards, gravity-the force of pulling the plane down, and last, lift-the force pulling the plane up. All of these are equally important in the processes of flight.
My definition and rules of flight are; it must be supported be air pressure, it cannot be sheer force moving it, and it must move through the air without something pushing or pulling it (with the exception of a propeller, engine ect).
